VB player commits to Northwestern Ohio
From Viking to Racer! St. Johns River State College student-athlete Gianna San Filippo will continue her academic and volleyball paths at the university level with the University of Northwestern Ohio this fall, where she will pursue a degree in sports management.
The 6'1" Middle Hitter from River Ridge High School in Tampa led the Viking volleyball team in kills (290), kills per set (2.36), attack % (.284), solo blocks (92), block assists (30), total blocks (122), and total team points (412).
Filippo's hitting percentage placed her in the top 50 in nation. While her blocking stood out, she ranked 4th in the nation in solo blocks, 25th in total blocks & 33rd in blocks per set.
She earned 1st Team All-Sun Lakes Conference honors as well as All-FCSSA Region 8 honors.
SJR State head volleyball coach Bill Bonham said that in addition to her accolades on the court, she is equally successful in the classroom, carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.63. "Gianna has represented the team and our college in a first-class manner and will continue to do so at the next level. We look forward to her continued growth and success," Bonham said.
