Bio

Bill Bonham was announced as the new Head Coach for both Women's Indoor and Beach Volleyball programs in February.  Bonham brings with him over 25 years of volleyball coaching experience, mostly in Ohio.  He has held positions for NCAA D2 Tiffin University as a recruiting scout, Assistant Coach at NJCAA D2 Owens Community College and most recently served under Head Coach Jason Miller as an assistant coach at NCAA D3 Heidelberg University.

While in Ohio, Bonham also was a successful high school coach for 7 seasons finishing with a combined record of 120-54 at 3 different schools (Fremont Ross, Buckeye Central, Tiffin Columbian).  During those years, his teams had 4 conference titles, a district title, a regional title and a trip to the state Final Four in 2012 with BC.  Bonham was picked as the conference coach of the year 5 of the 7 years, as well as a chosen coach for several All-Star matches.

In addition, Bonham has been on the club circuit all across Ohio since the mid 1990s, with most of his time spent with the Black Swamp VBC in Tiffin.  He has also coached for his friend Brent Newell at the former Pandora-Gilboa VBC near Findlay, Ohio.  Over the years Bonham has been very successful with his teams and sending players onto various levels of college to continue their careers.  He has coached at several levels, and his teams have been represented in the National Tournaments for USAV, JVA and AAUs over the years.

Bonham's passion for the sport also carried him into the officiating side of the court as well.  He has held certifications in the OVR/USAV, PAVO and OHSAA.  While a high school coach, Bonham also served on the executive board for the OHSVCA where he helped with many clinics, banquets and camps.  He has also organized his own camps over the years across the state that have featured other college coaches and players from universities like Penn State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Xavier and Eastern Michigan, to name a few.

Bonham's love of sports has led him down many paths to many venues.  He has also coached high school baseball & basketball, and even coached women's fastpitch softball while at Owens CC in Toledo.  He has also worked in the racing industry, specifically dirt track racing (sprint cars), has volunteered for PGA events at Muirfield in Dublin, Ohio, and has been an avid slow-pitch softball player and golfer since his high school days.

While Bonham's background is different from most others, he brings a life-long resume of helping others to SJR.  With a Public Safety background, Bonham has been a FF & EMT, a LEO and a 911 dispatcher during his life-time.  Most recently he combined his love of sports and public safety into one as he held the position of Senior Overnight Manager for Public Safety for the Nashville Predators hockey team at Bridgestone Arena.  While there he helped with security issues and emergencies around the arena that included NHL hockey games, concerts and other sporting events in the venue.
